Giyora Bergel was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1963. He completed his art studies in 1995, receiving a BFA, cum laude, from the Fine Arts Department of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Giyora taught art at the Avni Institute for Arts and Design in Tel Aviv from 2003-2004, as well as in several private art institutes. He has also worked extensively on building stage sets. From 2005-2006 Giyora studied philosophy in the faculty of Humanities at Tel Aviv University. In addition to his art career, Giyora is a passionate martial arts and yoga instructor. From an early age, he’s been a student of traditional Shotokan Karate and has achieved the highest ranking of 5th Dan. He participated in continuing education in Japan from 1992-1993 and won several important awards in national and international Karate competitions. In 2009 Giyora was involved with inventing and developing a special art of movement based on the motion principles of karate and other eastern traditional martial arts. He applied these methods and successfully performed them in site specific performances in various cities around Israel.
Giyora currently lives in Tel Aviv and continues to work and practice daily.
